UTVS News

UTVS News is a student produced newscast covering everything from local to national news. UTVS News is live at 3:30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Students do everything from creating reporter packages, producing, write stories, make video elements to directing and running audio in the control room. UTVS News is overseen by two news directors who help with day to day functions. Classes also work closely with UTVS news within the Mass Communications Department. Weather, Sports and Anchor positions are audition based.

Auditions take place in the television studios once a semester after each semesters general meeting. If you don’t get a full time position, you may get a shadow position. Shadows learn day to day functions and also get the opportunity to go on air during the semester! If you’re also interested in taking part in a crew position, UTVS volunteers get opportunities to run graphics, camera, master control and many more! Directing, technical directing, audio, and video are typically reserved by more experienced production members.

Alumni from UTVS News are working in news stations throughout the country! Reporters gain industry level experience reporting on the local stories that impact the granite city community. Reporters also go on location using the UTVS production truck for remote live shots. Producers use AP ENPS to create rundowns and to time the 30 minute show live on air.

For more information contact the UTVS News Directors on how to get involved! If you’re at all interested to be on air talent, be on the lookout for information for each semesters general meeting!
